BRONX — Holy Cross Parish here is planning a Mass on June 6 in honor of the Year for Priests that will be celebrated by Matthew Pravetz, OFM, a former resident of Holy Cross friary.
The 12:30 p.m. liturgy will be followed by a procession of the Blessed Sacrament in honor of the feast of Corpus Christi.
Fr. Peter Pomposello, pastor of Holy Cross Church since 2008, has invited the friars to concelebrate at the Mass, according to Matthew. Fr. Pomposello also extends an invitation to the parents and siblings of friars to attend and share in the many celebrations. Fr. Pomposello said that the stained glass windows which were in the friary and are now located in the parish chapel in the rectory (the former convent) will be opened to inspection, according to Matthew.
The afternoon will be filled with many additional activities, including the annual street fair, a car and motorcycle show and a blessing of the marker for the parish time capsule, said Matthew.
The friars have a long history with Holy Cross Parish, where they served from 1921 until 2008.
