BOSTON  — Postulant Director John Maganzini, OFM, Vocation Director Brian Smail, OFM, and David Convertino, OFM, director of St. Anthony Shrine, along with the friar community of 100 and 103 Arch Street here welcomed three to St. Anthony Shrine on July 20.  The new residents, Scott Carey, Gerald Hopeck, and Michael Reyes, are beginning their initial formation year in Holy Name Province.

All the planning and preparation leading up to this day was joyfully celebrated as these three men arrived at the shrine, John said.  Accompanied by family members and friends, the three new postulants began their journey.

The friars gathered for an evening of celebration at 5:30 p.m.  It began with a prayer service led by David, during which John received a special blessing as he begins formation ministry.

David asked, “Will you serve our postulants and lead them through this formation year of prayer, fraternity, and ministry?” John responded, “I will with the help of God and this friar community.”

Following the prayer service, friars and guests enjoyed an informal dinner.  The first week for the three men will be an orientation phase, John said.  David will teach the first class on “Transition and Change.”

Holy Name Province will officially welcome the three men in an affiliation service on Aug. 17 at St. Anthony Shrine.
