Boston Friars Welcome Australian Guest

John Maganzini Around the Province

BOSTON — The friars at Saint Anthony Shrine here have welcomed John Boyd-Boland, a friar from Australia, to their community.

John, who is pursing studies this semester at Weston Jesuit School of Theology, will assist on the Shrine schedule as his academic schedule permits. John, who is the fourth friar from left in photo, is taking a sabbatical leave from his role as parish priest at St. Therese and St. Anthony parish in Kedron, Queensland.

In November last year, John released On a Craggered Hill — A Fifty Year Story , a book that relives the events and history of Padua College where he is chaplain. Padua College is a Catholic boys school in Brisbane, Australia.

Saint Anthony Shrine has welcomed friars from various mission areas and provinces as they pursue English language studies or sabbatical programs. Franciscans share the charism of “hospitality” and it is a wonderful part of our life to open our home.
