Aubrey McNeil Dies in Massachusetts

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — Aubrey McNeil, OFM, 72, a professed Franciscan friar for 36 years and a priest for 32, died on Dec. 5 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. He was pastor of St. Mary of the Angels Parish in Anderson, S.C., where he had lived since 2005.

Aubrey, a native of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, had served at other ministries including St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Camden, N.J., St. Francis of Assisi Parish in New York City, and Holy Cross Parish in the Bronx, N.Y. Aubrey also served briefly in the Franciscan formation house in Mbarara, Uganda. A more detailed overview of his life will be published at a future date.

A viewing is scheduled for Dec. 11 from 9 to 10:15 a.m. at St. Anthony Shrine, 100 Arch St., Boston. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated there at 10:30 a.m.

A memorial Mass will be offered on Dec. 15 at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Anderson.
