SILVER SPRING, Md. — As the school year ends, the friars in formation are planning for their summer assignments and upcoming year-long internships. HNP’s directorate of post-novitiate formation Francis Di Spigno, OFM, has announced their ministry placements for friars based at Holy Name College here.
Summer Assignments
The HNC friars are spending their summers at a variety of Province locations along the East Coast. These ministerial placements run from May through mid-August.
Francis Critch, OFM, and Stephen DeWitt, OFM, are in North Carolina. Frank is serving at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Raleigh and Stephen at Immaculate Conception Parish in Durham.
Eric Dwayne Fernandes, OFM, is at Sacred Heart Church in Tampa, Fla.
Mario Gomez, OFM, and Jeffery Jordan, OFM, have been placed in New Jersey. Mario’s internship is at St. Bonaventure Church in Paterson. Jeffrey, who will profess first vows June 6, is serving at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Long Beach Island.
Daniel Horan, OFM, is working at St. Anthony Shine in Boston, while engaged in foreign language studies.
Antonio Cornier, OFM, and Edgardo Zea, OFM, remain at Holy Name College. There, Antonio is preparing for his Maryland Medical Boards and Edgardo is taking summer courses.
Fadi Azar, OFM, a member of the Custody of the Holy Land who has been in formation at HNC, is interning at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Camden, N.J.
Year-long Internships
Two friars in formation have been assigned to parishes for one-year internships, which will conclude in summer 2010.
Erick Lopez, OFM, is now ministering at St. Patrick – St. Anthony Church, Hartford, Conn. Paul O’Keeffe, OFM, will begin a one-year internship in August at St. Francis of Assisi, Long Beach Island, following completion of a summer ministry in Silver Spring.
Solemn Profession
Three friars will attend an inter-provincial solemn vows retreat June 28 through July 25 at the San Damiano Retreat Center in Danville, Calif., in anticipation of their professions on Aug. 22. They are: Lawrence Anderson, OFM, Fred Dilger, OFM, and Juan de la Cruz Turcios, OFM.
Additionally, as reported in the May 6 issue of HNP Today, Larry has received his permanent assignment to St. Mary’s Parish in Pompton Lakes, N.J. Fred and Juan continue with their current assignments in Philadelphia and Tampa, respectively.
Francis has also announced that Joseph Macaluso has withdrawn from HNP’s post-novitiate formation program, effective May 8. He will be taking a position as a lay parish administrator in the Albany, N.Y., Diocese.
