These are the highlights of the April 20-21 meeting of the Provincial Council.

Chapter of Mats – 2007

The Council confirmed that the Provincial Chapter of Mats will be held June 5-8, 2007, at Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y.

Days of Reflection and Renewal – “Grace of our Origins”

Dominic Monti gave a progress report on the Days of Reflection and Renewal – “Grace of our Origins” that are being held in preparation for the 800th anniversary of the foundation of the Order. Four of the seven gatherings have already taken place in various locations in the Province.

Mission in Peru

The Provincial Council reviewed a report from Dominic Monti and Francis Di Spigno from their March 19-24 visit with the friars at our mission in Peru.

St. Francis Chapel and Ministry Center – Providence, R.I.

Andrew Reitz and Christopher Coccia gave a report on their visit to St. Francis Chapel and Ministry Center in Providence on April 3. This included a visit to a potential site for relocating the friars’ ministry there in light of the sale of the Weybosset Street property.

Continuing Education, Professional Development, Ongoing Formation

The Provincial Council approved a policy for friars participating in continuing education, professional development or ongoing formation. The policy will be posted in the “friars only” section of the Provincial Web site.

English-speaking Conference Meeting

John O’Connor gave a report on the English-speaking Conference meeting for Provincials that was held April 1-7 in Victoria, Canada.

Meeting for Guardians and Pastors

The Provincial Council confirmed that the meeting for all guardians and pastors will be November 13-16 at St. Anthony’s Friary in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The next Provincial Council meeting will be May 16-17 in New York.
