CINCINNATI — Fr. Jeffrey Scheeler, OFM, represented the OFM English-speaking Conference last month at the third International Conference of Commissaries of the Holy Land in Jerusalem, an experience that he called a “wonderful opportunity to become more aware of this important ministry of the Order.”
Fr. Jeffrey and Fr. Jeremy Harrington, OFM, current and former provincial ministers of the Ohio-based province, joined some 100 friars and lay collaborators Jan. 30 to Feb. 1. Participants reflected “on the care of the Holy sites of the people in the land of Jesus,” according to an article in the Feb. 16 issue of SJB News Notes. The story — “The Land of Jesus is ‘the pearl’ of the missions” — describes the structure of the Holy Land Custody, which has three friar commissaries — or representatives — in the United States.
The conference participants heard presentation on pilgrimages, finances, activities, projects and publications of the custody, said Fr. Jeff. He added: “For the last several weeks, I have been very much aware of the multiculturalism of the Franciscan Order.”
