ALLEGANY, N.Y. — The Franciscan Sisters of Allegany elected Sr. Margaret Mary Kimmins, OSF, as the new congregational minister last week. The community chose its new leadership team during its July 28 to Aug. 5 chapter held at nearby St. Bonaventure University.
The sisters’ new leader will be formally installed on Oct. 4, with the four other newly-elected leaders: associate minister Sr. Margaret Magee, OSF, and councilors Sr. Patricia Reid, OSF, Sr. Odette Haddad, OSF, and Sr. Patricia Shirley, OSF.
Sr. Margaret Mary, a native of Queens, N.Y., is religious outreach coordinator for Bread for the World, and president of the board of directors of the Franciscan Action Network. She is also a member of the board of trustees of the Allegany Franciscan Ministries. Sr. Margaret Mary has previous served as the community’s leader.
A video of the chapter, whose theme was Courageous Women: Incarnating the Christ, appears on the sisters’ website along with four documents describing the gathering. They are: Welcome, Homily for Opening Liturgy, State of the Congregation and Chapter 2012 daily updates.
Three years ago, the community celebrated its 150th anniversary with Provincial Minister John O’Connor, OFM, participating as the keynote speaker at the April 24, 2009 event.
