Fr. Virgil Dwyer, OFM, was born on Sept. 21, 1902 in Passaic, N.J. A graduate of St. Bonaventure’s College in Allegany, N.Y., he entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1927. He professed temporary vows one year later, and made his solemn profession and was ordained in 1931.

The greater part of Fr. Virgil’s Franciscan life was devoted to the preaching of missions and retreats as a member of the Province’s Mission Band. He died on April 2, 1946 in Jersey City, N.J. Fr. Virgil was 43 years old, a professed friar for 17 years and a priest for 14 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
