Theophilus Mahlbacher

Fr. Theophilus Mahlbacher, OFM, was born in New York City, on May 5, 1883. He entered the Province’s novitiate Aug. 25, 1903, and professed temporary vows Aug. 30, 1904.

Fr. Theophilus made his profession of solemn vows Sept. 7, 1907, and was ordained a priest on May 21, 1910. The two years of his priestly ministry were spent at St. Bonaventure College in Allegany, N.Y., where he was a professor.

He died in Olean, N.Y., on June 9, 1912. He was 29 years old, a professed friar for seven years and a priest for two years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
