Theodore Walheim

1906 – 1941

Fr. Theodore Walheim, OFM, was born on Jan. 1, 1906 in Philadelphia. He graduated from St. Joseph Seraphic Seminary, Callicoon, N.Y., and entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1926. He professed temporary vows one year later and made his solemn profession in 1930. He was ordained in 1933 at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington.

He ministered at St. Stephen of Hungary Parish in New York City before becoming a member of the Province’s Mission Band, preaching parish missions throughout the United States.

He died on Oct. 9, 1941 in Misericordia Hospital, Philadelphia. Fr. Theodore was 35 years old, a professed friar for 14 years and a priest for eight years. He was the uncle of Thomas Kelly, OFM.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
