Theodore Gillin, OFM

1908 – 1978
Br. Theodore Gillin, OFM was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on June 21, 1908. After one year as a tertiary brother at St. Stephen Friary in Croghan, N.Y., he was received in 1936 into the Province’s novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary in Paterson, N.J.
He professed simple vows in 1937 and solemn vows in 1940.
Br. Theodore became a member of the pioneer community at Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y., where he devoted himself to the task of transforming the make-shift buildings assigned to the pioneer friars into habitable dwellings.
At St. Bonaventure Friary, Br. Theordore tended to the gardens. In 1967, he requested an assignment in Puerto Rico, but ill health prevented him from going.
Br. Theodore remained at St. Bonaventure Friary until 1974. He was then transferred to St. Anthony Friary in St. Petersburg, Fla., where he died Sept. 16, 1978. Br. Theodore was 70 years old and a professed friar for 41 years.
