Stanislaus McGee

1859 – 1940

Fr. Stanislaus McGee, OFM, was born June 28, 1859 in Delhi, India. He was ordained in 1888 and went to Australia, where he served as a missionary for 29 years. In 1917, he was received into the novitiate in the Province of Tuscany, Italy, and professed temporary vows one year later.

Following his solemn profession in 1921, Fr. Stanislaus returned to Australia as a missionary and worked there until 1925. He came to the United States and joined Holy Name Province, and until his death, ministered as a popular retreat director and confessor at St. Francis Friary in Brookline, Mass.

He died there on April 11, 1940. Fr. Stanislaus was 80 years old, a professed friar for 21 years and a priest for 52 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
