Stanislaus Dabrowski

1903 – 1989

Fr. Stanislaus Dabrowski, OFM, was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 21, 1903. He entered the novitiate of the Commissariat of the Holy Land in 1926 and professed his temporary vows the following year. In 1930, Fr. Stanislaus professed solemn vows and was ordained a priest.

In 19132, Fr. Satinslaus became a member of Holy Name Province and for the next 25 years his ministry was as an itinerant preacher ? a “Joculator Domini” who preached missions and retreats for religious.

Fr. Stan served as chaplain to the Franciscan Sisters in Warwick, N.Y., for six years and dedicated himself to the ministry of spiritual direction at Our Lady’s Chapel in New Bedford, Mass., St. Francis Chapel in Providence, R.I., and St. Francis Church in Brookline, Mass.

He summed up his own life with the words: “I have many pleasant and consoling memories of helping the People of God.”

His final days were marked with intense suffering. Fr. Stan died Aug. 18, 1989, at Holy Name Friary in Ringwood, N.J. He was 86 years old, a professed friar for 62 years and a priest for 58 years. He was the great-uncle of Br. Paschal Gallagher, OFM.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
