Sennen San Fratello, OFM

1926 – 2008
Fr. Sennen San Fratello, OFM, was born on Sept. 20, 1926 in Elgin, Ill., and was baptized Charles. From 1946 to 1948, he served in the United States Army Air Corps in Japan. He was received into the Order at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1952, professing simple vows one year later. He made his solemn profession in 1956 and was ordained a priest two years later.
Fr. Sennen devoted his life to serving in education. He taught English at St. Bonaventure University, Allegany, N.Y., from 1958 to 1961 before serving on the faculty of Bishop Timon High School in Buffalo, N.Y. In 1963, he joined the English department at Siena College, Loudonville, N.Y., where he taught until his retirement in 2005.
For more than a decade, Fr. Sennan was an “on-call” chaplain with the Samuel Stratton Veterans Administration Hospital in Albany, N.Y., as well as at a local nursing home. He also volunteered with a local AIDS hospice.
In 2007, he moved to Holy Name Friary, Ringwood, N.J., where he died on Oct. 12, 2008. He was 82 years old, a professed friar for 55 years and a priest for 50 years.
