Sebastian Rabin

1914 – 1972

Fr. Sebastian Rabin, OFM, was born April 11, 1914 in Philadelphia. He was received into the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1934 and professed temporary vows one year later. Fr. Sebastian made his solemn profession in 1938 and was ordained in 1941.

After ordination, Fr. Sebastian ministered at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in New York City, and in Beach Haven, N.J. In 1947, he traveled to Bolivia as a missionary, and there guided from its infancy to maturity the mission foundation of Holy Name Province in Bolivia. He also served as chaplain at Villa Maria Academy in Lima, Peru. Upon his return to the States, Fr. Sebastian was assigned to St. Anthony Shrine in Boston, where he continued his sacramental ministry to the people.

He died on April 9, 1972 in New York City. Fr. Sebastian was 57 years old, a professed friar for 36 years and a priest for 30 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
