Br. Rupert Buerkel, OFM, was born in Leimersheim, Germany, on Nov. 10, 1882. He received the habit at St. Bonaventure Friary in Paterson, N.J., on May 11, 1901, and professed his temporary vows June 6, 1902.

He died fifteen days later in Paterson on June 21, 1902. He was 19 years old at the time of his death.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
