1867 – 1923

Br. Roch Behrendt, OFM, was born on May 9, 1867 in Siegfriedswalde, Germany. He came to America with his parents and settled on a farm in the West. Br. Roch entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1904, professing temporary vows one year later. He made his solemn profession in 1908.

He served his entire Franciscan life on the farm at St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary, Callicoon, N.Y. He died there on Feb. 26, 1923. Br. Roch was 55 years old, a professed friar for 17 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
