Richard Flanagan, OFM
1891 – 1919
Fr. Richard Flanagan, OFM, was born on April 13, 1891 in Philadelphia. After attending St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary, Callicoon, N.Y., he entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1911, professing temporary vows one year later. Fr. Richard made his solemn profession in 1915 and was ordained in 1918.
He died on March 27, 1919 in the rectory of St. Paul’s Church, Clifton, N.J., during a flu epidemic. Fr. Richard was 27 years old, a professed friar for six years and a priest for 10 months.
