Philip Waldman, OFM

1865 – 1923
Fr. Philip Waldman, OFM, was born July 12, 1865 in New York City, where his family belonged to St. Francis of Assisi Parish. After studying at the old Latin school in Croghan, N.Y., he entered the novitiate in 1884, professing temporary vows one year later. Fr. Philip made his solemn profession in 1888 and was ordained in 1889.
When the Province’s theology house was in Winsted, Conn., Fr. Philip served as assistant master of clerics. He also ministered at St. Francis of Assisi Parish. The greater part of his Franciscan life was spent as a professor of the humanities at St. Bonaventure College, Allegany, N.Y.
He died there on March 10, 1923. Fr. Philip was 57 years old, a professed friar for 37 years and a priest for 33 years.
