Philip McCool

1900 – 1935

Fr. Philip McCool, OFM, was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on July 7, 1900. A graduate of St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon, N.Y., he entered Holy Name’s novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary in Paterson, N.J., Aug. 16, 1922. He professed temporary vows Aug. 20, 1923, and made his profession of solemn vows on Aug. 20, 1926.

Fr. Philip was ordained a priest on May 25, 1929. He was pastor of St. Mary’s Parish in Pompton Lakes, N.J., and was in the process of building a new church there at the time of his death.

He died in Paterson on May 18, 1935. He was 34 years old, a professed friar for 11 years and a priest for almost six years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
