Paulinus Cody

1906 – 1974

Fr. Paulinus Cody, OFM, was born the seventh of 14 children in Roxbury, Mass., on June 14, 1906. He entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Church in Paterson, N.J., on Aug. 18, 1928, and professed temporary vows . Aug. 19, 1929. Fr. Paulinus made his profession of solemn vows on Sept. 17, 1932, and was ordained a priest June 10, 1935.

The majority of Fr. Paulinus’ active ministry was spent serving parishes. His first assignment was to St. Francis of Assisi Church in New York City, and then he went to Assumption Parish in Wood-Ridge, N.J., where he was an assistant.

He served in Garfield, N.J., and Brookline, Mass., before going to St. Anthony Shrine in Boston. For a brief time, Fr. Paulinus served in the southern missions, and then returned to St. Anthony Shrine in 1956.

He died in Boston on May 15, 1974. He was almost 68 years old, a professed friar for 44 years and a priest for almost 39 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
