Patrick McGann, OFM

1893 – 1963
Br. Patrick McGann, OFM, was born on Aug. 10, 1893 in Dumraney, County West Meath, Ireland. He came to the United States as a young man, and was received as a tertiary brother on the feast of St. Patrick, 1916. He entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary in Paterson, N.J., in 1919, made his temporary vows profession one year later, and professed solemn vows in 1923.
His long and devoted service to the Province began at St. Bonaventure College in Allegany, N.Y., where he worked from1920 to 1941, with the exception of one year at St. Stephen Friary in Croghan, N.Y. Br. Pat served as tailor, nurse, porter, and congenial jack-of-all trades in the friary.
In 1941, he was transferred to Holy Name College in Washington, where he continued his work as tailor. In 1956, Br. Pat was assigned to Siena College, Loudonville, N.Y.
He died on Nov. 12, 1963 at Siena College. Br. Patrick was 70 years old, a professed friar for 43 years.
