1890 – 1919

Br. Norbert Moore, OFM, was born April 11, 1890 in Bolivar, N.Y., not far from St. Bonaventure’s College, Allegany, N.Y. He entered the novitiate in 1912 and professed temporary vows one year later. Br. Norbert made his solemn profession in 1916.

He died during the flu epidemic three years later in Paterson, N.J., just two months short of his ordination. At the time of his death, Br. Norbert commented, “it is good to be able to die as a Franciscan.” He died on March 31, 1919. Br. Norbert was 28 years old, a professed friar for five years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
