Myles Reilly

1927 – 1954

Br. Myles Reilly, OFM, was born in Passaic, N.J., on Nov. 7, 1927. He entered St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary, Callicoon, N.Y., and upon graduation was received into the novitiate Aug. 12, 1948, at St. Bonaventure Church, Paterson, N.J. He professed temporary vows on Aug. 13, 1949, and celebrated his solemn profession Sept. 17, 1952.

Br. Myles possessed a happy disposition, which endeared him to both his teachers and classmates and prepared him for the suffering he would endure from leukemia.

Br. Myles died in St. Clare’s Hospital in New York City on May 12, 1954, three days after his classmates had celebrated their first Masses. He was 26 years old and a professed friar for four years and nine months.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
