Fr. Michael Mann, OFM, was born Dec. 27, 1839 in Clonmel, Ireland. After teaching for many years with the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn, N.Y., he entered the First Order in Allegany, N.Y., in 1887, professing temporary vows one year later. Fr. Michael made his solemn profession and was ordained in 1891.

His years of ministry were spent mainly at St. Joseph Parish, Winsted, Conn., where he was pastor from 1900 to 1904, and in Allegany and in Buffalo, N.Y., where he died on Feb. 4, 1920. Fr. Michael was 80 years old, a professed friar for 31 years and a priest for 28 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
