Melory Collier, OFM
1914 – 1972
Fr. Melory Collier, OFM, was born on June 6, 1914 in Pottsville, Pa. He entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary in 1938, professing temporary vows one year later. He made his solemn profession in 1942 and was ordained in 1944.
After ordination, Fr. Melory was assigned to St. Bonaventure Parish in Paterson, N.J. In 1955, he went to St. Anthony Shrine in Boston, where he was responsible for the office of procuration, among other duties. In 1958, Fr. Melory was stationed in Little Falls, N.J., as an assistant at Our Lady of the Angels Parish, where he was appointed pastor in 1961. In 1967, he became an assistant at St. Joseph’s Parish in East Rutherford, N.J.
Most of his life was spent in parishes, where he served the people with deep faith and a great sense of humor until his death in Paterson on Sept. 27, 1972. Fr. Melory was 58 years old, a professed friar for 33 years and a priest for 28 years.
