Maurus Kennedy, OFM

1917 – 1969
Fr. Maurus Kennedy, OFM, was born on Jan. 27, 1917 in Corning, N.Y., and attended St. Bonaventure University, Allegany, N.Y. He was received into the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1935, professing temporary vows one year later. Fr. Maurus made his solemn profession in 1939 and was ordained in 1941.
The majority of his Franciscan life was spent in education. Fr. Maurus was a member of the business faculty of both St. Bonaventure University, Allegany, N.Y., and Siena College, Loudonville, N.Y. From 1957 to 1965, he served as treasurer for Siena. He also served as treasurer of Holy Name Province for three years.
He died on Jan. 8, 1969 at St. Clare’s Hospital in New York City. Fr. Maurus was 51 years old, a professed friar for 32 years and a priest for 27 years.
