Fr. Maurice Vollmer, OFM, was born Dec. 4, 1887 in Pavenstaedt, Germany. He was received into the Order in 1907, professing temporary vows one year later. Fr. Maurice made his solemn profession in 1911 and was ordained in 1913.

His priesthood was brief. He served as pastor of St. Elizabeth’s Parish, Wyckoff, N.J., the first pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Rochelle Park, N.J., and a professor at St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary, Callicoon, N.Y.

He died on Feb. 20, 1920 during the influenza epidemic in Callicoon. Fr. Maurice was 32 years old, a professed friar for 11 years and a priest for six years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
