Leo Ferrara, OFM

1880 – 1953
Br. Leo Ferrara, OFM, was born on Aug. 14, 1880 in San Fele, Italy. He came to America as a young boy and was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral Parish in Buffalo, N.Y., until he entered the Order. He received the habit in 1920 and professed his simple vows in 1921.
While serving as porter at St. Patrick’s Parish in Buffalo for 28 years, he was a fixed and familiar figure as the ministry underwent many personnel changes. He also cared for the poor who came to the friary and was known and loved by the people of Buffalo. One year before his death, he transferred to Siena College, Loudonville, N.Y.
He died on April 18, 1953 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Schenectady, N.Y. Br. Leo was 72 years old, a professed tertiary brother for 31 years.
