1893 – 1947

Fr. Keiran McGrath, OFM, was born July 10, 1893 in Hoboken, N.J. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary, Callicoon, N.Y., and entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1914. He professed temporary vows one year later, made his solemn profession in 1918 and was ordained in 1921.

He ministered as a priest in Paterson, Lincoln Park, Pompton Lakes and Wayne, N.J., where he built the church. He was the first pastor of St. Catherine Parish, Ringwood, N.J., and served as guardian of St. Anthony Friary, Butler, N.J., for six years.

He died on April 27, 1947 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Warwick, N.Y. Fr. Kieran was 53 years old, a professed friar for 31 years and a priest for 25 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
