Juvenal Ellis, OFM

1918 – 1967
Fr. Juvenal Ellis, OFM, was born on Nov. 24, 1918 in Buffalo, N.Y. He graduated from St. Joseph Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon, N.Y., and entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1942. Fr. Juvenal professed temporary vows one year later, made his solemn profession in 1946 and was ordained in 1948.
He taught math and chemistry at Bishop Timon High School, Buffalo, from 1949 to 1954, before studying biology at St. Bonaventure University, Allegany, N.Y., for three years. Fr. Juvenal returned to Bishop Timon, where he continued to teach until his death. He served as vicar of the friary there from 1962 to 1966.
He died on Dec. 9, 1967 at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo. Fr. Juvenal was 49 years old, a professed friar for 24 years and a priest for 19 years.
