Fr. Joseph Weiand, OFM, was born March 1, 1856 in Schoenenberg, Germany. He entered the Order in 1877, professing temporary vows one year later. Fr. Joseph made his solemn profession in 1881 and was ordained in 1882.

He ministered at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in New York City and served for many years as chaplain of St. Francis Hospital in the Bronx, N.Y. Fr. Joseph celebrated his golden jubilee of both religious profession and priesthood.

He died on March 6, 1935 in Paterson. Fr. Joseph was 79 years old, a professed friar for 56 years and a priest for 52 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
