Joseph Bussen, OFM

1871 – 1924
Fr. Joseph Bussen, OFM, was born on Dec. 8, 1871 in Neuenbecken, Germany. He entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary in Paterson, N.J., in 1891, and professed temporary vows one year later. He made his solemn profession in 1895 and was ordained in 1897.
His ministry was spent at several New Jersey parishes, including those in Little Falls, Wanaque, and Fair Lawn. He also served as guardian at St. Stephen Friary in Croghan, N.Y., where he built part of the clericate, and as pastor of Holy Name Parish in Garfield, N.J.
He died on Oct. 23, 1924 in Paterson. He was 52 years old, a professed friar for 31 years, and a priest for 26 years.
