John Stark, OFM

1873 – 1920
Fr. John Stark, OFM, was born Nov. 23, 1873 in Regensburg, Germany. He was received into the Order in 1896, professed temporary vows one year later and made his solemn profession in 1900. Fr. John was ordained in 1903.
He served as an associate and then as pastor at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in New York City from 1904 to 1907. During his tenure as pastor, the friary was built in 1908 and the Provincial Office was moved from Paterson, N.J., to New York City. Fr. John served as associate pastor and vicar in Paterson from 1910 to 1912. The next four years were spent as associate and pastor at St. Joseph Parish, East Rutherford, N.J. From 1917 to 1920, he served as associate at St. Patrick’s Parish in Buffalo, N.Y.
He died on April 14, 1920. Fr. John was 46 years old, a professed friar for 22 years and a priest for 17 years.
