Jeremias Stone, OFM

1895 – 1954
Fr. Jeremias Stone, OFM, was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 13, 1895. He attended St. Francis College in Brooklyn and entered the Province’s novitiate Aug. 12, 1920, at St. Bonaventure Friary in Paterson, N.J.
He professed temporary vows Aug. 15, 1921, and made his profession of solemn vows Aug. 15, 1924. He was ordained a priest at St. Francis Church in New York City Aug. 31, 1924.
Fr. Jeremias’ entire priestly life was spent in parishes of Holy Name Province: Holy Cross in Clason Point, N.Y., St. Joseph in Winsted, Conn., St. Francis in Beach Haven, N.J., St. Patrick’s in Buffalo, N.Y., and St. Bonaventure in Paterson.
During his final years of illness, Fr. Jeremias lived in Callicoon, N.Y. He was a friar with a large body and a heart filled with kindness and thoughtfulness.
He died July 26, 1954, at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Md. Fr. Jeremias was 58 years old, a professed friar for almost 33 years and a priest for almost 30 years.
