Hugoline Ruby, OFM

1915 – 1989
Fr. Hugoline Ruby, OFM, was born in Jessup, Pa., on July 27, 1915. He attended St. Bonaventure College in Allegany, N.Y.
In 1936, he entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary in Paterson, N.J., professing temporary vows the following year. Fr. Hugoline made his profession of solemn vows in 1940, and he was ordained a priest in 1942.
Fr. Hugoline’s first assignment was to St. Joseph’s Parish in Winsted, Conn. In 1945, he was assigned to St. Joseph’s Parish in East Rutherford, N.J., and then moved to Allegany to teach at his alma mater.
He was assigned to St. Francis Friary in Brookline, Mass., from 1947 through 1950 and then to Holy Cross Friary in the Bronx for the next four years of his life. Fr. Hugoline was a friar sensitive to the problems of others.
He died Aug. 25, 1989, at Mount Alverno in Warwick, N.Y. Fr. Hugoline was 74 years old, a professed friar for 52 years and a priest for 47 years.
