Henry Curley

1894 – 1948

Fr. Henry Curley, OFM, was born in Blissville, N.Y., on Sept. 18, 1894. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon, N.Y., and entered the Province’s novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary in Paterson, N.J., in 1921.

In 1922, he professed temporary vows and made his profession of solemn vows in 1925. Fr. Henry was ordained a priest at St. Bonaventure College, Allegany, N.Y., in 1928.

Until a long illness intervened, Fr. Henry ministered in parishes as pastor of St. Catherine’s in Ringwood, N.J., and Mountain View, and as an assistant at St. Joseph’s in East Rutherford, N.J., and St. Joseph’s in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

He died Aug. 14, 1948, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Warwick, N.Y. Fr. Henry was 53 years old, a professed friar for nearly 26 years and a priest for 20 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
