Harold McCall

1897 – 1964

Br. Harold McCall, OFM, was born Aug. 25, 1897 in Hartford, Conn. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I and then cared for his widowed mother. At age 53, he was received as a tertiary brother at St. Francis Friary, Rye Beach, N.H., in 1950. He made his tertiary profession the following year and remained a perpetual tertiary.

Br. Harold served at the Academy of American Franciscan History in Bethesda, Md., as refectorian, and at St. Francis Friary in the kitchen and dining room. He died on April 13, 1964 at St. Bonaventure Friary in Allegany, N.Y. Br. Harold was 66 years old, a professed tertiary for 12 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
