Gervase Walters, OFM

1932 – 1987
Fr. Gervase Walters, OFM, was born Jan. 2, 1932 in New Brunswick, N.J. He entered St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon, N.Y., as a high school student and was received into the novitiate in 1951. He professed temporary vows one year later, made his solemn profession in 1955 and was ordained in 1958.
He spent 12 years working at St. Anthony’s Guild before beginning his parochial ministry at St. Bartholomew’s Parish in East Brunswick, N.J. Fr. Gervase was a respected counselor who enjoyed ministering to the sick and shut-ins.
He died on Feb. 8, 1987 in East Brunswick. Fr. Gervase was 55 years old, a professed friar for 34 years and a priest for 28 years. He is the brother of Thomas Walters, OFM.
