Fr. Gabriel Nangle, OFM, was born July 2, 1868 in Stone Park, Ireland. He entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure’s College in 1890 and professed temporary vows one year later. Fr. Gabriel made his solemn profession in 1894 and was ordained in 1896.

For several years, he was a professor and disciplinarian at St. Bonaventure’s. Fr. Gabriel served as one of the early Provincial Councilors and, for 26 years, ministered as confessor and assistant at St. Francis of Assisi Church in New York City.

He died on April 20, 1935 in Brighton, Mass. Fr. Gabriel was 66 years old, a professed friar for 43 years and a priest for 38 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
