Fr. Frederick Loeffel, OFM, was born July 9, 1899 in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary, Callicoon, N.Y., and entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1920, professing temporary vows one year later. Fr. Frederick made his solemn profession in 1924 and was ordained in 1927.

His first six years of pastoral ministry were spent at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in New York City. Fr. Frederick then served at St. Joseph Parish, Winsted, Conn., and at St. Francis Seminary in Lowell, Mass. His final six years of pastoral ministry were served in Beach Haven, N.J.

He died on Jan. 19, 1943 in Columbus. Fr. Frederick was 43 years old, a professed friar for 21 years and a priest for 16 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
