Flavian Wilber

1903 – 1934

Fr. Flavian Wilber, OFM, was born on March 23, 1903 in Austin, Pa. He studied at St. Joseph Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon, N.Y., and entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary in Paterson, N.J., in 1921. He professed temporary vows one year later, made his solemn profession in 1925 and was ordained a priest in 1928.

He spent three years teaching at Aquinas Institute in Rochester, N.Y., and at St. Bonaventure College in Allegany, N.Y. The next three years were spent in parish work and the preaching of parish missions.

He died Oct. 21, 1934 in the Flower Hospital in New York City. Fr. Flavian was 31 years old, a professed friar for 12 years, and a priest for six years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
