1912 – 1965

Br. Fabian Abel, OFM, was born on May 12, 1912 in Corning, N.Y. After a short time at St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary, Callicoon, N.Y., he applied to enter the Order as a lay brother. He entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1938, professing temporary vows one year later. Br. Fabian made his solemn profession in 1942.

He served at St. Francis Friary, New York City, St. Francis Friary, Brookline, Mass., and Holy Name College, Washington. Br. Fabian also served in Lenoir, N.C., Callicoon, Paterson and Siena College, Loudonville, N.Y., before serious illness restricted his activities.

Br. Fabian became permanently hospitalized in 1952 and died on March 21, 1965 in Buffalo, N.Y. He was 62 years old, a professed friar for 25 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
