Fr. Dominic Sonnabend, OFM, was born on Dec. 2, 1877 in Kuellstedt, Germany. He entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1894, professing temporary vows one year later. He made his solemn profession in 1898 and was ordained in 1903.

After ordination, he served as a professor at St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon, N.Y., and then ministered in parishes in East Paterson and Garfield, N.J., and Croghan and Obernburg, N.Y. He died on Jan. 2, 1937 at St. Francis Hospital in the Bronx, N.Y. Fr. Dominic was 59 years old, a professed friar for 42 years and a priest for 34 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
