Fr. Dominic Foley, OFM, was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 29, 1912. He entered Holy Name’s novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary in Paterson, N.J., Aug. 12, 1937. He professed temporary vows Aug. 13, 1938, and made his profession of solemn vows on Sept. 17, 1941.

Fr. Dominic was ordained a priest on May 29, 1943. He was a pioneer missionary to Brazil in 1944 and dedicated 25 years to the Brazilian Mission of Holy Name Province. He served in Catalao, Goiandira, Anapolis, and Cristalandia. He served Bishop Benedict Coscia, OFM, in the Diocese of Jatai from 1961 to 1968.

Fr. Dominic’s life was characterized by a notable willingness and readiness to serve the poor, whom he befriended wherever he worked. He died in St. Clare’s Hospital in New York City on May 1, 1970. He was 58 years old, a professed friar for 31 years, a priest for almost 27 years and a missionary for 25 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
