Conrad Wald

Br. Conrad Wald, OFM, was born on Oct. 25, 1838 in Hamerz, Germany. He entered a novitiate in Germany in 1872, professing temporary vows one year later. Br. Conrad made his solemn profession in 1878.

He came to the United States with other exiles of the Kulturkampf and labored faithfully for the communities in Croghan, N.Y., and Butler and Paterson, N.J. A gentle friar with a friendly disposition, he was a delight in the community.

He died on March 7, 1923 in Paterson. Br. Conrad was 84 years old, a professed friar for 49 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
