Chrysostom Huegel

1874 – 1932

Fr. Chrysostom Huegel, OFM, was born on July 30, 1874 in Erie, Pa. He entered the novitiate in 1904, professing temporary vows one year later. He made his solemn profession in 1908 and was ordained in 1910.

He served as one of the Province’s early novice masters, and also served on the Provincial Council. Most of his Franciscan life was dedicated to preaching missions and retreats. At the time of his death, he was superior of the Province’s Mission Band.

He died on Dec. 3, 1932 at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Fr. Chrysostom was 58 years old, a professed friar for 27 years and a priest for 22 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
