Charles Loeffelholz, OFM

1877 – 1948
Fr. Charles Loeffelholz, OFM, was born in Küllstedt, Germany, on Feb. 21, 1877. He entered the novitiate April 19, 1894, and professed temporary vows on April 22, 1895.
Fr. Charles made his profession of solemn vows April 23, 1898, and was ordained a priest in the Chapel at Seton Hall College, South Orange, N.J., on April 13, 1903.
As professor of theology and philosophy, preacher of missions and retreats, secretary of the Province, guardian of St. Stephen’s Friary in Croghan, N.Y., and first guardian of St. Elizabeth’s Friary in Denver, the years of his Franciscan ministry were filled with dedication and enthusiasm for the Church and the Province.
Fr. Charles died in St. Mary’s Hospital in Hoboken, N.J., on June 12, 1948. He was 71 years old, a professed friar for 53 years and a priest for 45 years.
