Celsus Murphy, OFM

1848 – 1914
Fr. Celsus Murphy, OFM, was born on July 27, 1848 in Killenaule, Ireland. He entered the novitiate in 1878, professing temporary vows one year later. Fr. Celsus made his solemn profession in 1882 and was ordained in 883.
For several years, he served as pastor in West Milford, N.J., but spent the greater part of his Franciscan life as a professor of Greek and the humanities at St. Bonaventure College, Allegany, N.Y.
He died on March 24, 1914 in New York City. Fr. Celsus was 65 years old, a professed friar for 34 years and a priest for 30 years.
